Pioneer BDP-180 Blu-ray player: best of both worlds

Pioneer BDP-180 Blu-ray player

No home cinema system is complete without a Blu-ray player. Unlike movies downloaded or streamed over the internet, Blu-ray discs include uncompressed soundtracks like those encoded in Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and newer, innovative formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS X. A Blu-ray player can immerse viewers in a movie in a way no other source can.

But, whilst Pioneer's excellent new model - the BDP-180 - can, of course, spin Blu-ray discs (3D or otherwise), DVDs, CDs and SACDs, it also has a host of features to delight those who wish to stream music and videos (wirelessly or not) from their computers or mobile devices.

The BDP-180 can act as a network hub to allow consumption of locally stored content and it can cater for high-resolution music files. There's also a built-in gateway for viewing YouTube content. Two USB inputs and an Ethernet port are present.

The player can be controlled via Pioneer's free iOS or Android apps or the supplied remote control.

Video from all sources can be upscaled to 4K by the player (where it's connected to a 4K-compatible TV).

The BDP-180 is smartly finished with a brushed aluminium fascia and the model is available in black or silver.

The Pioneer BDP-180 Blu-ray player is a terrific all-rounder and is in stock now at Hi-Fi Stereo.
