Yamaha RX-V675 AV receiver has the (cutting) edge

Yamaha RX-V675 AV receiver

Home entertainment technology moves fast. These days, it's hardly worth mentioning that an AV receiver is equipped with 3D-enabled HDMI sockets, auto speaker setup or even that it's network enabled and so can stream content over the internet or from local sources like a NAS drive. So, let's point out where the Yamaha RX-V675 receiver has the edge on many other receivers at this price point (just under £500).

The front-mounted HDMI socket on the RX-V675 doubles as an input for Mobile High-Definition Link devices. Content can be streamed from an MHL-enabled smartphone or tablet and enjoyed on the RX-V675. MHL supports full HD video and uncompressed 7.1-channel soundtracks. And the receiver will charge a connected device, too.

1080p video isn't the limit of this receiver's video handling; the RX-V675 can pass 4K (ultra-HD) visuals through to a TV and also upscale non-4K content to 4K.

AirPlay allows wireless streaming from iOS devices or computers running iTunes. If a direct connection is preferred, the front-mounted USB socket is compatible with iPads as well as iPods and iPhones.

A great app is available for controlling the receiver via an iOS- or Android smartphone or tablet.

The Yamaha RX-V675 has a specification that makes movie watching and music listening a joy, be it now or in the future. But the most important thing about the receiver is how good it sounds. Yamaha's experience in surround-sound processing is clearly evident in the output of the RX-V675. And you can hear it at Hi-Fi Stereo.
