Yamaha's new home cinema receiver: good for music, too

Yamaha RX-V671 AV receiver

Yamaha has been a leading brand in home cinema products for years and its latest receiver - the RX-V671 - ensures that the company's reputation isn't going to be affected anytime soon!

The Yamaha RX-V671 AV receiver is the latest product to benefit from the company's years of experience. Not all AV amplifiers are as good at playing music as they are movie soundtracks but the RX-V671 excels at both, and is the most musical receiver in its price category.

The receiver incorporates the latest technology, including six HDMI inputs and an ethernet connection for listening to music streamed from a computer or over the internet. (FM/MW tuners are also included.) iPod/iPhone users will be interested to know that the USB socket is compatible with the devices and that a free app is also available.

Despite all the technology inside, the receiver's fascia is uncluttered and clearly laid out. Scene buttons allow multiple functions to happen at the push of a single buton. And setting up is straightforward thanks to the auto-calibration, making sure that the output is well balanced regardless of seating position.

The Yamaha RX-V691 receiver costs £499.95 and is now available at Hi-Fi Stereo.
